WERU History

Welcome to the 25th Anniversary section of the WERU web site. Over this past quarter-century, over a thousand WERU volunteers and tens of thousands of listeners along with local businesses, community groups, artists, and musicians have made WERU what it is today: truly a “Voice of Many Voices.”

To help celebrate WERU’s Silver Anniversary, WERU offered a series of events and special programming all year long, and the celebration continues this year with access to all issues of Salt Air (the WERU Program Guide), photos of past and present WERU volunteers and events, a WERU History timeline, and lots of other resources so that anyone can re-live, or discover for the first time, the history of the station.

“Little Quizzette” included in the special 25th Anniversary Salt Air printed in June 2013 are available here. Many thanks to all of the volunteers, members and underwriters who have sustained the station for all these years!

Click on any of the links below, and return often–new materials will be added regularly. And stay tuned as WERU–and you–create the next 25 years!

  • Salt Air archives that you can read on screen or download to your own computer
  • Photos of WERU volunteers and events (more will be added throughout the year)
  • “Hear Again”–Audio Archives of special rebroadcasts of programs from WERU’s first 25 years
  • WERU History: A timeline and narrative of WERU’s development that will be added to all year long
Do you have a milestone to add to the WERU timeline?  E-mail suggestions to weru25@weru.org.
