Know Your DJ: Phil Norris

Phil Norris is a one of the founders of WERU and is currently the host of Folk Music with Cousin Phil, heard every Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00.  Here’s a bit about Phil in his own words…

How did you first get involved at WERU?

I first got involved in 1985 when I moved to East Blue Hill. David Snyder was sponsoring concerts at the Grand Auditorium to raise money for Salt Pond Community Broadcasting. I helped him do publicity and ushering.

Why do you think WERU is important and valuable to the community?

The airwaves back in the Eighties were mostly a wasteland of top forty and oldie goldies. WERU was a breath of fresh air and has continued to be a valuable alternative.

What is your career outside of WERU?

I am a farmer, piano tuner and tree warden.

What are you passionate about in your life and/or community?

I’m passionate about music, passionate about good radio, passionate about apple trees.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our listeners and readers?

The new WERU website has an improved streaming feature which allows the listener to stream shows up to two weeks after the actual broadcast. The show can be paused and resumed at will. You don’t have to miss any WERU shows anymore!
